Garrick Stanley rounded on this patient and noticed that her speech was different. The patient's primary language is Spanish, but she speaks fluent English as well. Garrick is also proficient in Spanish, so they had been conversing in Spanish throughout the shift. When he noticed that her Spanish was off and she appeared to have a facial droop, he jumped into action immediately. He had the nurse extern working with him to get the vital sign machine and glucometer while he notified the doctor.

The code stroke was called, and the patient was transferred to the ICU and received TNK. Garrick notified the patient's daughter, who arrived at the hospital extremely upset. He met her downstairs and walked her up to the ICU, where her mom was bedded. Garrick remained with the patient's daughter until she was able to calm down, and he could explain everything that was going on with her mom's condition. This meant a lot to her because she was scared. She told Garrick how much his staying with her and not leaving her mom's side meant to her and stated that he is a wonderful nurse who will always hold a special place in both her and her mom's hearts.

Garrick exemplifies patient-centered care 100% during each shift that he is here at PMN. He consistently delivers high quality care to our patients "The Piedmont Way". He is a true advocate for each of his patients and exemplifies teamwork by always supporting his co-workers and assisting them in his role as charge nurse, even with his own six patients. We are blessed to have him on our team, and I will continue to support his endeavors to grow in this organization.
