When Gary came in at shift report, he and my husband greeted each other like old friends.
My husband and I would like to recognize Gary for his compassionate care. My husband was left very weak while preparing for emergency surgery. He had a hard time ambulating to the bedside commode for the dozens of BM's prep brings on. He said Gary stayed with him for most of the night being cognizant of preserving his dignity and leading to far fewer "accidents" or possible falls. He made my husband feel safe; this is a gift that cannot be taught- it must be felt and be authentic. My husband had asked if I would stay overnight the following night. I was asking why he felt I should. He pondered and said, "If Gary is my nurse, I am okay if you go home! This is a huge statement from one who has been so ill this week. When Gary came in at shift report, he and my husband greeted each other like old friends. It was amazing to see that bond from one long uncomfortable night. My husband is in healthcare and recognized the strength and talent that Gary has. They were two healers that truly "saw each other". Gary is quite the Rockstar but with a strong comforting voice that my husband could hear without hearing aids on!
Thank you, Gary!
