Gary is, first of all, an outstanding nurse! The relationship he creates with his patients is personable and different for every patient. His compassion shines through his work and his commitment to his patients is inspiring. My story with Gary is much more than his relationship with his patients, but his dedication to our team. Gary was my charge nurse one day and Gary is usually charge here and there, but when he is you always know he has your back. On this day, my morning was crazy. I was on the verge of calling a rapid response and was having low blood pressures in another room. I was not able to see one of my other patients. I reached out to Gary, who immediately stepped in and said, "don't worry about your other patient, I will take care of it." Gary not only passed meds, but he did a full head to toe assessment, charted everything that needed to be done, called the doctor regarding a patient request, and took over 100% of this patient's care. I have never worked with a charge nurse who took over a patient. I could not thank Gary enough and knew that I would not only look up to him as a leader but knew he would have my back at any moment.
Gary is truly a dedicated employee and loves what he does day in and day out. He brings a smile to the day and makes you laugh at anything. He is polite not only to staff but to his patients, even if they have some rough edges. We are lucky to have him on our team and I know the wound care team picked up a great nurse.
