I would like to nominate Gary Snyder, RN, for the DAISY Award. On Friday evening, December 17, 2021, my husband was a patient in MTH ED. Gary was his nurse at 7 pm. The day prior, test results confirmed my husband was COVID positive. Yes, he did receive the two vaccines plus the booster. My husband had an elevated temperature, was severely dehydrated and weak. Gary not only competently addressed my husband’s clinical needs but also helped alleviate his anxiety as he was frightened as to what was actually happening. My husband is an extremely independent man who, on this day, was scared and completely vulnerable. Although I know the ED was very busy this evening, Gary listened, checked on both of us frequently, answered all of our questions, and kept us informed while offering reassurance. He showed compassion and treated my husband with respect and dignity. I am very well aware of the model “compassionate, connected care.” Gary not only provided excellent clinical care to my husband but care that was both compassionate and connected! Thank you, Gary!
