Gencen was nominated multiple times by her patients in PD unit of SEHA Kidney Care. She believes that the highlight of her nursing career was the discovery that providing exceptional care requires empathy, first of all. She verbalized, "Taking care of patients always requires each person in the medical team to play a part in getting us through, particularly for the most difficult cases we have to deal with. So, as a nurse, I can say that the most fulfilling stories while taking care of my patients are those when I could bring simple joys to patients in a challenging environment. For example, the times when I could communicate with patients in their native language, which may seem like a small gesture, but at times, it meant the world to frightened patients with limited communication skills."
