Genesis Munguia extends compassion in her caring by listening, fostering trust, and using her knowledge to assure the best possible outcome for patients during her care. She is aware of how culture and ethnicity can affect the patients' experience in navigating a complex medical system and assists by; translating medical terms, helping to understand treatments, medicines and making informed decisions regarding the patient's health.  An ICU nurse reports that Genesis's strength is her communication skill. She brings calm to patients and families who are anxious and confused. She advocates for their well-being by identifying problems and communicating them to the healthcare team members promptly. Whether working with class assignments, in simulation, or clinical, Genesis is a leader in the team. She analyzes information, prioritizes and develops projects or plans and executes them flawlessly. I observed Genesis reviewing a prescription for a medication for a client with reported allergy. She expressed her concern for client safety with team members, notified the nurse manager and nursing supervisor, called pharmacist and the prescriber to voice her concerns. She was told to proceed with the medication administration. She was on high alert for a possible allergic reaction, obtaining equipment and medications she might need quickly, assessing the client, never leaving the bedside and reporting continuously with the healthcare team. The client wasn't even real, it was a simulator run by computers and yet Genesis behaved exactly as a nurse should; applying her knowledge, assessing, planning, advocating and working with a team to keep the patient safe.
