I want to recognize Genessa for her display of compassion, empathy, respect, excellence, and accountability she has shown throughout the years at this organization. Over the past seven years, I have personally watched her grow in her personal and professional life. She started at Rhode Island Hospital as a CNA and worked her way through nursing school while helping take care of her sick father who eventually passed away during her orientation, yet she took a minimal amount of time off because she wanted to continue her training, showing her dedication and strength.
She often is charge nurse where she displays her leadership and organization skills and is often a preceptor to new nurses where she is thorough, patient and takes the time to explain policies and procedures correctly. She also shows them time management skills and how to prioritize. She is a team player and is always there to lend a hand to anyone despite their role.
Genessa displays compassion with her patients on a daily basis. Two occasions happen to stand out to me where she went over and above. One was where one of our long term patients was passing and had no family to sit with them during this transition. Our shift had ended, and she and I sat with the patient until she took her last breath so that she didn't have to be alone.
Another time, one of our patients was confused and recently withdrew from alcohol. He had been discharged and left the building before his ride arrived. When his mom came she was very worried because she couldn't find her son. Genessa took the mother's number down and went looking for the patient outside. She found him sitting somewhere his mother would have never found him and he was still confused. She called the mother and led her to where they were and reunited the two. The mother was so happy and relieved her son was found and stated she never had someone care so much about them.
Genessa always treats patients like they are her family members and with the best quality care, she can give. No matter how busy her assignment is, you will never see her overwhelmed, she maintains her composure and handles each task given with grace and patience.
