I’m an outpatient physician for Northwell Health, and I’d like to nominate my office RN- Genessi De Los Santos for the DAISY award. Genessi continuously goes above and beyond her duties as an RN. Her work ethic is unmatched; she is knowledgeable, respectful, and well-liked by all of our patients. In all of my 30 years in the profession, I’ve never had the pleasure of working with someone as great as Genessi. Specifically, I’d like to mention a recent encounter Genessi had with a patient that will always stick with me. I recently had to make a house call for a patient with severe neurological and physical deficits secondary to a traumatic brain injury from a motor vehicle accident; the family was hesitant to take their son out of the house, fearful he would become ill with COVID-19. When I asked Genessi if she would accompany me for assistance after work hours, nonetheless, without hesitation, she agreed to help. During the visit, Genessi sat with the patient and his family and thoroughly explained each step of the encounter- making sure the patient was included in his care- though he could not verbally communicate much. The patient's mother was extremely thankful for Genessi’s patience and kindness and tearfully shared she hadn’t seen her son smile or laugh as much as he did with Genessi. This is just a small glimpse of the positive impact Genessi has on all of her patients. She is extremely deserving of this award.
