I was being treated for a reaction to Bactrim. The prescription made me hallucinate. With the help of Nurse Genet, a kind, thoughtful, wonderful woman, my stay at VMC was a revelation (not a hallucination).
First, let me tell you about the care that Genet gives to all her patients. (I've never seen anything like it.) She is a warrior. A warrior in the sense that she juggles requests of all kinds, questions from patients, and coordinates each patient's medicinal needs - keeping allergies in mind - and she pushes on relentlessly.
She does some kind of magic act where she is everywhere at the same time. She's often on the phone coordinating requests and/or calling doctors for answers. She never ignored me and she always remembered what I asked, and came back with an answer. After me, she would rush to attend to the needs of other people in this ward who have special needs or who have serious and/or permanent mental and emotional issues.
She deserves this DAISY Award because she is a champion for people who have serious developmental or mental-health problems.
