George was involved in the early deployment of the HealthPlex campuses. He is a strong advocate for teamwork and ensures that each team member feels valued.
As a fixer, George is often called on to step into areas that are in need of change. He partnered with case management to develop the Regional Access Center, allowing for a centralized location for bed placement and patient movement. As chair of the Emergency Management Team, he created 'disaster boxes' and organized bicycle helmets for those departments within the Pavilion at Midtown as well as coordinating with regional disaster drills and follow-ups. He has been tasked with integrating regional emergency services under his supervision, this includes 9 emergency rooms, a 911 ambulance service, and 2 EMS transfer services. In doing so, he has created a strong network of teams that collaborate to ensure excellent care within the region.

George was involved in the early deployment of the HealthPlex campuses. He is a strong advocate for teamwork and ensures that each team member feels valued. His open-door policy for all members of 'his team' (including ancillary departments in the ED) allows for an inclusive environment. He seeks to ensure our teams are safe and has partnered with system initiatives and met with the OK legislature to help develop safer workplaces for our employees.

As a Rotarian, George is very community-minded and seeks opportunities to participate in charity events that benefit our organization and local community. He has donated art for charity auctions, provided tickets for bedside staff to attend events, and promoted community involvement as he is able. During COVID, George participated in a staff appreciation drive by with his Corvette club to bolster morale.

George is self-motivated and driven to be successful. He inspires his leaders and teams to follow his example with gentle coaching but strong expectations. Routinely, George addresses goals and his department's progress. When a department is struggling, George is honest but reasonable with his mentoring.

He often states, "I surround myself with successful people." George challenges his teams with positive competition and is quick to acknowledge successes. In an effort to promote his open-door policy, George devotes most Fridays to travel between all of the campuses he oversees. George has demonstrated his integrity through his actions - both in support of teams and in confronting challenges. He works closely with ED Medical Leadership, not always agreeing, but working to develop common ground to benefit all parties.

George Benard is an amazingly compassionate, caring leader. Even as a VP, he will step into patient care areas if requested. He advocates for his team, promotes their successes, and encourages them with their challenges. He attends award celebrations for team members. Should his team face hardships, he is an amazing encourager, never prying, but supportive. Prompting others to reach their greatest potential is part of his chemistry, he challenges his team to expand their boundaries and seek innovative ways to provide exceptional care to our communities. His latest inspiration has been the 'Lucky Duck' campaign; ducks are hidden in each ED with a note to return to the manager for reward. This has created excitement and healthy competition within the areas he oversees - much laughter and camaraderie have been the result of this lighthearted initiative.
