His willingness to Patch Adams it up here in jail with me makes my world go round while serving my sentence. His humility and humor save my sanity.
George is someone who is near and dear to all of us in the medical unit. They hold a special place in my heart because he is the very first person I hired after becoming a supervisor at the Boulder County Jail.
George wears many hats. Besides being known as “Captain of the girls' team,” George is a nurse, a teacher, a storyteller, a historian, and a friend, and his presence fills those around him with positivity and joy. This is evident by the numerous nominations we’ve received for George. What makes this moment even more special is that George is retiring in the coming year. I cannot think of a better way to honor and recognize George than to present him with this award and remind him of the impact he’s had on his patients, his coworkers, and the Sheriff’s Office.
With no further ado, here are some of the excerpts from his many nominations:
“He figured out that I had a hernia from a car accident. I was able to get help with surgery. He is awesome!”
“Mr. George is always very positive, very polite, and very endearing. He is a great nurse and person.”
“Mr. George is so funny and energetic and makes me smile and laugh every time he works; he’s awesome.”
“Always on time and super friendly and courteous.”
“Every time I’d see him wheeling in the med cart, I’d light up, ready to throw a few laughs his way, the more cheesy or wholesome the better. His willingness to Patch Adams it up here in jail with me makes my world go round while serving my sentence. His humility and humor save my sanity.”
“George is always very attentive and remembers other inmates and me. He is always friendly in a place that isn’t always so. He is always happy and smiling, no matter the time of day. He is always willing and able to lend a kind and supportive word. George always remembers my name and my ice for my fingers without asking. George always makes me smile, even when I don’t feel well. He goes the extra mile for all of us. All these attributes are equal to good medicine! George is good medicine! Thank you for all you do and for being you!”
