My family and I still talk about George and how there needs to be more nurses like him. He truly cares about the profession and takes his job seriously.
George is not only one of the best people I have ever met, but he is one of the best nurses I have ever met. I am not a stranger to the medical field, as I am currently in PA school and have had many prior experiences as a medical assistant and through shadowing providers. I have come across many nurses during these times, and I can confidently say that George is the best. If there is anyone I would want to take care of me during my stay at the hospital, it would be him.

There are numerous reasons I could nominate George for this award, and they all center around his treatment towards not just my dad, his patient, but myself and my family. He went above and beyond the standard level of medical care that is normally provided. George saw early on how distraught I was about my dad’s condition and the close relationship that I had with my dad. During the first shift that George was taking care of my dad, he spent a considerable amount of time in the room answering all my questions. He explained the results in detail and always walked me through what he was doing when he was doing it. He took the time to listen to my concerns and give me his honest opinion. George never cared how many times a day I would call to check in on my dad, and he never made me feel like a bother. He never rushed when taking care of my dad, and I always knew that if I was not there, but George was my dad’s nurse that day, I could rest easily.

I really could go on about how amazing George is, but there is one day that I want to talk about. My dad had been in the CCU for about two weeks, and doctors had quickly come in and out of the room to tell me my dad was never going to recover and that it was time I made decisions. I was alone that day with my dad, and I was getting ready to leave when George asked to come talk to me in my dad’s room. It is important to note that George was not my dad’s nurse that day. George sat down next to me and talked me through everything that was going on, let me say all my thoughts and feelings, and presented my options in detail. He explained how touched he was by the love our family had for my dad and the dedication we showed to making sure he was getting the best care. He knew how hard I had been advocating. He knew how distraught I was. He sat with me for a long time and had what was one of the most impactful conversations of my life.

I ultimately made the decision to transfer my dad to a different hospital to get him a treatment that Overlook could not offer. The only reason that I had any hesitancy transferring him was because I was worried the nurses would not be as good as George. My family and I still talk about George and how there needs to be more nurses like him. He truly cares about the profession and takes his job seriously. I will always be grateful for the care George provided to my dad, and I will also be appreciative of the kindness and empathy that he showed me and my family during such a vulnerable time.
