I've experienced RN George Romero create numerous caring and positive interactions with family during my three years as a Staff Chaplain at Charles George VA Medical Center. Last week, I witnessed his amazing care for a grieving family once again.

RN Romero had provided care for a WWII veteran in the MICU and entered the room with tears in his eyes and high reverence for the sacredness of prayer over the veterans bed/body following his death. Many in the room were crying as well. RN Romero asked if it would be okay for him to join the family and pastor in prayer. Using minimal and appropriate words, he let them know that it was an honor to join in prayer with them. Following prayer, he stayed with them and offered much comfort, crying with them, and providing for their needs in the moment.

Any patient and family member(s) RN Romero is assigned to care for each day, receives not only expertise in nursing and unlimited energy for care, but also incredible compassion and empathy through a listening ear, someone who doesn't shy away from the expression of emotion, and a heart open to connecting in love.

Thank you, George, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
