Georgina is fiercely dedicated and committed to the unit, UHS, nursing, and her patients. Every day I see it when she goes to work undeterred by the busy high unit census and unanticipated complications that arise. In fact it is a challenge for her to be instrumental in finding solutions to the problems, as demonstrated when she volunteered to cross-train to Gyn Outpatient Surgery in anticipation of a staff shortage; she took the initiative to learn to scrub in as a surgical tech and has on several occasions covered during emergency surgeries, she has been called in to cover the night shifts when the scrub tech is on vacation or sick; she has adjusted her schedule on several occasions to accommodate nursing shortages on both day and night shifts without any hesitation. Lately, she is trialing a schedule working various hours of 8-10-12 hour shifts to meet the needs of the unit during its peak busy hours.
These are just but a few examples and I may be impartial as to why I feel Georgina deserves a DAISY Award. Georgina's loyalty and dedication to the unit have not faltered after 25 years in Women's Health and her goal is being an integral part of raising the bar in the patient experience at UHS. I have seen Georgina in action of what she does best and that is comforting our patients when they are most vulnerable. I have seen her whisper to a patient as she held her hand telling her everything was going to be fine and doing a great job with integrity to keep her informed through the chaos. She is a true example of a compassionate nurse and a great team leader.
