Geri Whelan is a compassionate and caring nurse house supervisor (throughput). I worked with Geri in the RSV Peds / PICU transfer center. I personally witnessed Geri assemble RN, LVN, and case managers to create a team that would create and implement transfers to RUHS for peds affected by RSV. Geri tirelessly and consistently kept us in communication on the policy and procedures requested by the ER personnel as well as the nurses working on the units. Geri kept our team encouraged when we felt overwhelmed. She personally kept me encouraged and helped with my perseverance when I doubted my abilities. Geri remained here late most nights, she remained available via text/call after normal hours. She greeted our team with a smile. She provided us with positive criticism, ways to improve, and also compliments and encourage us during this time. Within a matter of weeks, Geri had created a team 24 hours a day to help transfer to RUHS and facilitates to other facilities to other facilitates as needed during the RSV crisis. Geri continued to perform other critically needed duties as well as manage transfer center team members, RN, LVN, Admin, and Case management.

Geri doesn’t stop caring when she walks out of the doors. She cares beyond this physical building; she cares about patients and staff members. She has the absolute ability to make you feel valued no matter your title. Her request for me has been to do the best job I can, be compliant, communicate and be a team player. She is a great example of doing what’s needed even when no one's looking. She makes it easier to find your joy back in patient care because she exemplifies the “if you were the patient, how would you want to be treated" attitude, how would you want to be treated attitude. She is a true DAISY Nurse Leader.
