I first met Gil when I was orienting in NICU. Although I came from ICU as a staff nurse, transitioning to NICU was kind of scary for me. The fragile NICU patients are entirely different from taking care of adult ICU patients. NICU babies easily deteriorate, so if you're not a skilled NICU, it's really terrifying to take care of this patient population. But Gil as a NICU charge nurse made my transition easier from adult care to neonatal care.
Gil is a knowledgeable, excellent, seasoned nurse. His extensive experience as a NICU RN made him a strong, competent and efficient night shift NICU charge nurse. His passion for taking care of these fragile babies is very evident as he does his job as a charge nurse. Gil's welcoming, caring, and friendly attitude towards me when I was just starting in NICU is a significant factor for me to stay in NICU and become a proficient NICU nurse. He always has ears ready to listen to my questions and queries, about taking care of NICU babies. On top of that, he is very willing to share his NICU knowledge. Without a doubt, Gil is an extraordinary nurse. From making the babies safe then making the unit neat and well organized all the time and teaching the new nurses. He knows how to prioritize things, he's very helpful, fair to all staff and his willingness to go beyond his duties as a charge nurse is notable.
I am now a seasoned NICU nurse and I love my work taking care of NICU patients. Hence, Gil is a significant influence on me of becoming a skilled and competent NICU nurse. His compassion and dedication in doing his job not only towards the patients and family care but also towards his co-workers, specifically the new nurses like me when I was just starting his in NICU, which is an invaluable contribution for me of learning from a proficient NICU charge nurse. Furthermore, considering the generation gap and the impact of the transition of patient care from baby boomer nurses to millennial nurses, thus a right attitude like Gil has will make the transition smooth and welcoming to new grad nurses employed by our hospital toward excellent patient care.
Thank you, Gil! You are a great inspiration to all NICU nurses!
