My father was admitted from the ED with bleeding. His medical history is complex and confusing. This is his second hospital stay since February. The first thing Dad said when he saw me was, “I am so relieved that Gil is my nurse”.  

That made us very happy.  We first met Gil in February.  My dad had a great deal of anxiety because he has end-stage cancer and vascular disease, and heart disease. He is also difficult to understand because he has a laryngectomy and uses esophageal speech. Gil has gone above and beyond to make my dad comfortable and calm. He completely explained everything to make sure we all understood, and he made my dad feel cared for and like his treatment matters.

Most importantly, Gil’s smile and personality light up the room.  He makes all patients and their families feel cared for and important.  Nursing is definitely his calling, and he represents the profession well.
