Gilbert received a nomination letter written by the wife of one of his patients on the Rehabilitation unit. She assisted her husband to complete the nomination form as part of his rehab. She writes that working with speech therapy, her husband was able to regain his ability to speak. The first thing he said was, "Gilbert is a great nurse". Apparently, Gilbert made a lasting impression! As the family's admitting nurse he was welcoming and "helped make this awful journey start to look like there might be light at the end of the tunnel".
