Famous people often go by one name. That's how it is with Gina Artice. I have worked with Gina since the opening of the cancer center; however, she has been a nurse at Garrett a long time before that. In the community, all I have to do is mention Gina and people know exactly who I am referring to. I have witnessed the care and compassion Gina shows to her cancer patients. She goes out of her way, beyond her working day, to make sure patients get the care they need. Her attributes don't only include care and compassion. I am continuously amazed at her knowledge.
When Gina is asked questions at our cancer support groups or when I am with her in public, she always takes her time and thoroughly explains whatever is asked of her in language a non-medical person can understand. I often tell her that sometimes I sit and shake my head while she rattles off information and past experiences she has had. Behind all of her knowledge, it is so obvious how compassionate she is and how much she loves being a nurse! It's in her blood! She is a perfect example of what a nurse should be and is a true asset to Garrett Regional Medical Center.
