Their exceptional commitment to compassionate care and giving back to the community, particularly to the underserved, makes them truly deserving of this recognition.
We would like to present three outstanding students with the DAISY Award who went above and beyond for the underserved population of the Inland Empire: Stephanie Bell, Gina Bollinger and Lanette Rosby. Their exceptional commitment to compassionate care and giving back to the community, particularly to the underserved, makes them truly deserving of this recognition.

The students volunteered at a park on a Sunday for half the day in San Bernardino with the Inland Empire Street Clinic. This is a collaboration with UCR medical students to provide medical care and support to those living on the streets. The park was filled with tents and even boxes where this population lived. The students interacted with several families that had children with special needs. They showed them respect, compassion, and understanding.

This day, the needs were many. Many of the clients had wounds, including fresh burns, requiring the need for dressing changes. Many families were hungry and were lacking basic needs. The students recognized the needs and, without being asked or prompted to, purchase the following:
> Dressing change supplies:  Gauze, Neosporin, tape, etc.
> Hygiene supplies: Toothpaste, deodorant, etc.
> Food: Snacks, drinks, etc.
> Pet Food: Several of the people had animals.
> Basic Needs: Socks, underwear, etc.

The students spent almost $300 of their own money and stated to the faculty they did this because they wanted to help the people and did not want or expect to be reimbursed. The students organized the goods into bags and, with big smiles on their faces, passed them out to the families. This exemplifies the meaning of the DAISY Award.
