Gina was able to give her patient the advice based on her years of expertise in the ED, even when it may not have been what the patient had been told previously. Gina made sure the patient understood what was going on in terms that the patient understood.
Gina showed a very high level of respect for her patient. I can say she not only exhibited this level of respect for the patient I was visiting, but I noticed she did the same with patients and family members who she passed in the corridors and PODS within the ED. Her professionalism did not go unnoticed. Gina worked tirelessly to ensure collaboration between all members of the health care team responsible for caring for my employee. Gina did not hesitate to call physicians, NPs, lab, etc., to get answers for her patient. Gina showed true servant leadership by exuding compassion, taking time to listen, and constantly reassuring her patient that she was going to do whatever was necessary to ensure she had all questions answered in a timely manner.
Gina upheld and exceeded Parkland's standards of excellence by involving patients in their care, keeping the loop of communication open between patients and providers, and following up with all promises to the patient. In the ED, that is not always easy, but Gina made it look effortless. This is how we knew her actions were genuine and unpretentious. There is no doubt that Gina cares for all patients in this same manner. She made us Parkland nurses proud!
Gina made sure time was managed appropriately during her shift. She followed up on tasks either at the time she promised her patient she would or before that promised time. Time management is one of the most important aspects of working in the ED. Gina made sure her tasks were performed with accuracy and precision the first time. She is a true steward of taxpayers' time and money!

Gina made us forget that we were in Parkland's busy ED. Each time she stepped into the room, she did so as a subject matter expert who was both humble and willing to listen. Gina not only treated my employee in this manner, but as I watched her zoom around the ED, I noticed she treated ALL of her patients the same way. This proved that even though we're busy, we can still take a moment to show our clients just how important and special they are. Gina knows that we cannot do what we do each day without the clients who trust us coming back to our facility. This was very evident in the manner in which she carried herself, interacted with her patients, and intervened on her patients' behalf. Gina could have easily taken on the attitude of "I'm too busy to care," but she didn't. Gina showed that we can either see the glass as 1/2 full or 1/2 empty as we navigate through the various issues that we encounter daily. Gina chooses to rise above the negativity and promote great patient interactions and outcomes. Gina is what we all should aspire to be: A transformational Leader.
