Gina frequently demonstrates her compassion for our patients and recently went above and beyond her job description to provide care to a patient in need. In January, the Home Health Office was alerted by an off-duty RN that it appeared there was a fire near one of our patient's homes and fire and rescue were already on the scene. Gina volunteered to swing by the area to see if it was our patient and if he needed Home Health assistance, outside of other scheduled visits. On arriving, Gina found that it was the patient's home that had burned. Gina located the patient who had gotten himself and his dog out safely along with his duffle bag of medications, but not any other belongings or his medisets. Gina assisted in making sure the patient had a place to stay. She then and used her own money to purchase clothing and a new mediset for the patient and then assisted the patient in filling his mediset. Gina also contacted the VA to request refills for medications lost in the fire as well as a new set of monthly medisets which were also destroyed. She assisted in finding a place for the dog and returned later in the day to the hotel where the patient was staying to make sure he was doing alright after the fire.
