Gina was the nurse educator who led my training when I started at St. Chris, and from the moment I met her, she thoroughly explained everything I needed to know in a way that eased my anxieties and made me feel welcome.
During my first few weeks of orientation, Gina was very involved with my transition into my brand-new RN career. She made sure to check in as much as possible to ask if there was anything I needed, how’s the assignments, am I learning, etc.. She also shared her phone number and let it be known to never hesitate when it comes to using it. I even ended up very tearful during one of the check-ins, and she somehow made me feel better by sharing her experiences and the things she did to cope when transitioning into a new position. There is never a question that I have asked that she doesn’t have the answer to. And if she doesn’t (which is rare), she never leaves it unanswered! She’ll find you even if it’s 2 months later with an answer. I can tell she loves her position as an educator, and I am very appreciative of her.

Gina consistently goes out of her way to make sure staff are knowledgeable and understanding of new policies and equipment. There was one instance with a patient who came from PACU with equipment and medication I was not familiar with. She immediately came to the floor with printed out resources and sheets. This patient also had some complications that required additional monitoring and multiple phone calls to the team. She stayed later than anticipated until the patient was stable and I was comfortable as the nurse caring for the patient. Her number one goal is to always help others, and it truly shows every day.

On the night shift, there is not a lot of support, meaning no educators or managers are around like on the day shift. Gina is always available whenever we need her. She made a night shift council to help the night shift. She is there late sometimes and is always ready to help. She was at home once and will call in to help in any situation. She is dependable whenever needed. Nightshift is hard to be a part of everything because we are not there during the day. Gina has made it possible for us to feel like we are a part of everything. She has volunteer events at night, and she has education at night for us. She has made us feel appreciated and included.
