A patient wanted to tell us about one of our nurses, Gina Pollard. He said that in his 70+ years and he has never seen anything like this nurse that we have working in our hospital. He went on to tell the story about Gina called to prepare him for his HD catheter exchange. Gina gave him instructions to prepare for the procedure. The question came up about stopping his blood thinner. Gina was to check on this and get back with him as to whether he should stop this medication or not. Upon receiving the information Gina tried to call the patient. After many attempts, Gina was unable to reach the patient to tell him that he needed to stop this medication or the procedure could not be performed. This patient had already missed his dialysis due to malfunction of his HD catheter and needed it replaced so he could have his next scheduled dialysis. If he did not stop his blood thinner, he would have to postpone dialysis again. Gina did not want this to happen so she drove to his house after work to give him the instructions. Gina ended up getting lost. She was driving around but was unable to find his house. Gina made one last attempt on her cell phone and was able to reach the patient and his wife. Both were very grateful for the effort that Gina had put forth. Patient stopped his blood thinner, had his procedure and then had dialysis as scheduled.
