Nurse Gina was very attentive and compassionate. She thoroughly explained what was being done, not only to my mother, but to my husband and I, as well.
My mother is 70 years young with a new onset of dementia, Parkinson's disease, and CHF. She was also admitted for a PE, which in my opinion, was missed at the initial hospitalization. Nonetheless, on her 3rd admission within 30 days, my mother was admitted to the 4th floor at Bay Area Hospital. Upon admission to the floor, we were blessed to have nurse Gina as her nurse. My mother forgets easily, loses her train of thought with almost every conversation and struggles to express her needs often. As a nurse myself, I know how frustrating this is for the patient and the nursing staff. Nurse Gina was very attentive and compassionate. She thoroughly explained what was being done, not only to my mother, but to my husband and I, as well. She communicated openly with us and the doctors. Having an elderly parent, diagnosed with such conditions, is very difficult to accept, protect and advocate for them. After a tiresome 30 days of dealing with the inevitable, I felt very comfortable leaving the hospital and leaving my mother in Gina's care. It is my understanding that she started working as a unit clerk at Bay Area and is now one of the best registered nurses I have come across in my 28-year career of nursing. Medical facilities need more nurses like nurse Gina and a few could learn a thing or two from her when it comes to care, compassion, consideration and advocacy. She is a true DAISY Nurse. She is an outstanding example as to why this award exists.
