To see our loved one being treated with dignity, compassion, and empathy made our hearts melt. Gineen took the time to get to know our loved one.
Jeanes Campus-TUH presented its first DAISY Award on February 15, 2023! This is exciting news for our campus staff!
The worthy recipient is Gineen McGillen, RN. Gineen works on 3C, one of our medical units. The nomination was submitted by the parents of a former patient. In the letter, it is written that their loved one has a substance use disorder and is living on the streets. When the parents arrived for the visit, the mother ran out of the room crying as the patient was a “pale, gaunt, skeleton of their former self”.
“The first thing Gineen did was offer me a hug. She didn’t know me but she knew I needed it.” The letter continues by noting how Gineen provided kind, compassionate care to the patient and the family. The letter noted, “some treat drug users badly but they are human beings. They are someone’s child, brother, sister, mom, and dad. To see our loved one being treated with dignity, compassion, and empathy made our hearts melt. Gineen took the time to get to know our loved one. She just didn’t treat the infection. She treated the soul and spirit of our loved one and that of us. She is a special woman and she shows that every day in the work she does. We can’t say enough good things about her. She melted our hearts with kindness and we are forever grateful."
