It was our good fortune to have Ginelle as my brother-in-law's nurse on that last day. He was very restless, in pain, and very short of breath. Ginelle did all she could do, in a very professional manner, to alleviate his discomfort and support and care for us too. She medicated him frequently, cleaned him, turned him, spoke gently to him, kept his mouth clean and moist and was there for him every hour, and more.
Two hours before he died he was extremely agitated and uncomfortable. Ginelle and a co-worker bathed him and changed his bed and gown. When they finished his care, Ginelle's co-worker left the room and the door was ajar. My sister and I were standing in the hall, waiting, and I peered into the room to see Ginelle standing at the foot of the bed gently and lovingly massaging his feet in an effort to calm and comfort him. That final act of kindness and compassion was a beautiful gift to him, my sister and me. It is a memory that will be alive in our minds and a comfort to our broken hearts forever.
