Had it not been for Ginger's caring and compassion, this patient would have never seen her husband before he passed away.
On a busy weekend Ginger's assignment included a patient with cancer and pneumonia whose husband had just been admitted upstairs to the HLC unit. The patient’s husband was also just diagnosed with cancer and doing poorly. The providers talked to him about goals of care which included intubation. The husband made himself a DNR. The patient’s children were at the hospital relaying messages back and forth to each of them keeping them updated on each parent’s condition. Once the patient in the ICU found out about her husband's condition, that's when Ginger sprang into action. Ginger immediately packed up her patient on the portable monitor and assisted her to the wheelchair with her IV pole in tow. Ginger then took the patient to HLC to spend time with her husband at his bedside. Ginger stayed with the patient for the first time for an hour before they returned to the ICU. As the husband's condition worsened, Ginger again loaded up her patient and took her to her husband's bedside to say goodbye because, later that evening, her husband passed. Had it not been for Ginger's caring and compassion, this patient would have never seen her husband before he passed away. Sadly, later in the week, she passed as well. Ginger truly cares for her patients and is an asset to the nursing profession.
