Ginny has a heart of gold. She is a passionate patient and unit advocate. For many years she has been the heart of our units "Tears and Cheers" - providing support and assistance to staff members celebrating a joyous life event or experience a life loss or hardship.
Recently, one of our young transplant patients was made a DNR. Her mom came in from out of town to spend some final time with her child. She was staying at a hotel some distance from campus and did not have safe transportation back to her if she left after dark. Ginny recognized her need and without being asked, reached out to her mom by arranging safe transportation, paying for two rides out of her own funds. She then communicated this need to me and we were able to connect the mom with the right resources to ensure she had safe transportation moving forward.
This exemplifies extraordinary, holistic care, taking care of not just the patient's needs, but recognizing the mom's needs and giving a helping hand.
