Giovanni Coco, RN
Giovanni told my mom she was the only patient in his assignment that day. It was my mom’s first full day in ICU. It was a scary day for my family. Gio was an angel. By taking the time to explain everything that he could while he was caring for my mom, he was also caring for us. All of this in the midst of still dealing with his own recent loss. This was his first day back after bereavement leave.
Gio is an extraordinary example of what nurses should be. Gio is the picture definition of a nurse’s heart. He deserves to be recognized because his dedication did not stop trying to help my mom recover. She has a long road ahead, but each day when we saw him on our team, at her bedside, tending to her, it gave us peace. God is in control, and he placed Gio in my mom’s life for a purpose. We thank God for the care he gave our mom. Gio deserves this DAISY Award
