I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on Friday. Gisela was my assigned nurse once I was transferred to the maternity ward. Her personality was soooo big! After having what I would consider to be a traumatic C-section, Gisela gently uplifted my spirits. Very organically, she made a distinctive connection with me. Sat with me at the bedside, educated me on a variety of topics, and paced herself. This is my 2nd birth at Hackensack, the nurses typically download a boatload of information post-delivery when you can barely recall your name as you are recovering.

Gisela slowed down that experience. She sat beside me and reviewed her responsibility and care for me. My medications, care for my new born, care for my surgery, she gave me a breast pump orientation. Reviewed my mental health status and ensured all the needed care was sent to my room. All of her replacement nurses on the next shift were all up to date on my records and my status. She owned the arrival experience, and although she wasn’t there for my discharge, she conducted her own post-discharge follow-up.

Being a hospitality professional, I have the luxury of overseeing 200+ colleagues daily. As an Area HR Director, I find it refreshing to have made that genuine connection with Gisela. Her commitment to care exudes in such a natural way. I’m truly blessed to have had the opportunity to connect with Gisela during a time when a mother is so vulnerable. I strongly nominate Gisela as a DAISY Nurse.
