My uncle was admitted to the ICU in critical condition and his status declined throughout the evening. Eventually we had to make the decision to turn off the ventilator and allow him to die.

My uncle's wife was unprepared for the demise of her husband and Gizella was very good at explaining everything that would be done to him to try to save his life and finally to allow his life to end comfortably. She showed compassion and empathy to his wife and to my husband and myself and helped to make his passing bearable and for us to feel that we had made the right decision to terminate the ventilator.
