Glad

My husband was a patient at Ocean for over two months. He was in CCU and on a ventilator for over a week. When he was off the vent, he was fortunate to have Glad as one of his nurses. My husband kept having a lot of trouble swallowing, due to constantly needing to be suctioned to get rid of all of the fluid in his mouth. Glad kept using the suction on him and saying, "I need you to cough for me." When he wasn't sure if A knew what he wanted him to do, Glad turned to me and asked, "What does he prefer [to be called]?" I thought, how kind of him to think about what name my husband prefers to be called.
Unfortunately through many ups and downs and many weeks of various treatments, things took a turn for the worse and A was back in CCU again. When things were not looking good, he was put back on the ventilator. Although Glad was not his nurse that night, he was working on the other side of the unit. He had heard my husband was back in the unit and came to see me to give me a hug! I just couldn't believe that after working a 12-hour shift, he took the time to come and offer me comfort.
