Gladys is an extraordinary nurse and the backbone of our clinic. She demonstrates our hospital values in every situation keeping the patient and their family at the center of care. She always demonstrates professionalism at work, takes pride in her job, and gets things done in a calm and efficient way. Our VIP patients smile when they see her as she welcomes them warmly into our Clinic every day all year round. Gladys demonstrates patience, compassion and empathy for all her patients and her focus is always on the quality of care and safety.
Recently, one of our patients had a rheumatology appointment. Gladys was the primary nurse and observed a raised blood pressure reading, she went back on the patient's history and noticed the blood pressure was always on the higher side and informed the patient to discuss it with the physician. During the patient's consult with the physician, Gladys spoke on behalf of the patient and informed the physician of this observation. The physician referred this patient to Internal Medicine, so they could investigate her raised blood pressure. The physician and the patient thanked Gladys for her observation as this patient had numerous clinic appointments previously and her raised blood pressure was never addressed.
We all seek advice and guidance from Gladys as she knows the ins and outs of our clinic and uses this knowledge to help not only her patients but also her colleagues and the protocol co-ordinators.
She proactively deals with problems before they become an issue and hence makes my job easier. She is a role model to the staff and her positive attitude uplifts the team. She strives for excellence in everything she puts her hand to and is always looking for performance improvement ideas that will help the smooth running of our clinic. She is always willing to help out with staff shortages in D4 and is also considered a valuable resource there. Furthermore, Gladys helps out with VIP/Royal Assignments when needed and hence her flexibility to adapt as needed when needed. She is the type of nurse you can always rely and depend on no matter what.
Gladys will always have a smile on her face and her infectious laugh brightens up the clinic on a daily basis. She has an unassuming personality that is endearing to us all. We all admire and respect her and feel so grateful to know her, work with her, and call her our friend.
