Glen's sense of humor in a medical setting really took my mind off some personal problems I was dealing with this time around with my wound care.
I have been to Burlington Wound Center many times. As usual, the doctor and all the nurses were extremely professional, personable, and really good at their job. Then one day I happen to get Glen as a nurse. When he came to wheel me into the room, he immediately started to crack jokes and made the ride to the room so much fun. l don't expect my doctors and nurses to be entertainers, but Glen's gifts in this area make him truly special. His sense of humor in a medical setting really took my mind off some personal problems I was dealing with this time around with my wound care.

l depend on my husband to drive me to all my doctor appointments and he is no "Visiting Angel" about these chores. He particularly complains every time he must wheel me to and from the Wound Center. That all changed the day we had Glen for a nurse. My husband loves to goof around and make jokes, so Glen's style of nursing made his day. Glen somehow manages to measure, photograph, make notes in the computer, decide on the best treatment for my wounds, apply various salves and bandages, wrap a soft layer of padding around my leg before he wraps the final outside wrap while cracking jokes the entire time. Now my formerly grumpy husband looks forward to going to the Wound Clinic in the hope we will get Glen that day.

Glen is much more than a stand-up comedian. He has given me information going forward after I'm released that no other nurse in the Wound Center told me about. With his knowledgeable advice, I will take care of my leg in a different way than ever before. His skill at treating my wounds has been the best in the department.

There's a serious side to Glen as well. One day I came in feeling really depressed about our daughter who works as a speech pathologist for the Chicago Public Schools. The day before the staff was ordered back to school, she started to feel extremely anxious and depressed, leading to full-blown panic attacks. Many of the children she deals with have disabilities which makes them totally unable to grasp the concepts of wearing a mask and social distancing. Even receiving her Covid vaccine made no difference in her anxiety and panic. Glen opened his heart to me and told me of a time when he experienced similar issues and how debilitating they were. He shared his deep understanding of these psychological problems and how they can be just as debilitating as any physical problems. He gave me hope that my poor daughter would be able to weather this storm in her life too. Best of all, my husband heard our whole conversation and came away with a much better understanding of our daughter's psychological problems. If Glen hadn't shared his experiences, I know my husband and I would be unintentionally making her life even more miserable. For all the reasons listed above, I believe Glen is a true DAISY Nurse.
