My dad was and always had been a man of few words, but when Gloria was there, I could hear them chatting and laughing from the other room. My dad always smiled when Gloria left. Despite having many nurses and caregivers come in, Gloria’s name was one he always remembered.
I'm finally sitting down to write an email on behalf of Gloria Lupi, one of your all-star Hospice Nurses. My father
was on Hospice care for four months, when he passed at home peacefully, free from Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia.
I  have a different view of hospice care after working with Gloria. When I first inquired and learned that my father would be on Hospice care I could not fathom what that meant.  Hospice always meant to me that death was looming right away, but it helped change that perspective for me. She helped me realize that it did not mean he was going to pass tomorrow but that it was her goal and the collective goal of my family was to keep my father comfortable in all ways - physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as he lived out the rest of her life.

When I  look back at our time with Gloria, I see that she knew when to interject thoughts and ideas to help prepare us for transition. I'm an art therapist and counselor, and we call it "following the contact" of the family. She was great with my dad - engaging with him on visits, not using the term Hospice at my request, and working with his delusions/hallucinations. She never challenged him. My dad was and always had been a man of few words, but when Gloria was there, I could hear them chatting and laughing from the other room. My dad always smiled when Gloria left. Despite having many nurses and caregivers come in, Gloria’s name was one he always remembered.

Gloria was very attentive to our needs as a family. Even though I did not live with my father, I felt comfortable calling and reaching out to Gloria on behalf of my father's or mother's behalf, and she would always call me back. She helped me work through the struggles of working with my mother's denial. She immediately got us a new hospital bed when the one we rented for my father broke, and she submitted supplies when needed right there in front of us that, most of the time, we received the same day, and most of all, she was there for my family both physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally.

Even to this day, if I call Valley and ask to speak to Gloria, she will return my call. We had such a rapport with her that when my dad passed away, I felt like I lost another family member as well.

Since my dad gained his angel wings,  I  have referred Gloria to 2 other individuals: my friend's wife, who passed away in November, and someone I met on a Facebook group for Dementia, whose mother passed away last week. Both families cannot thank me enough for bringing Gloria into their lives.  I will continue to recommend Gloria as a Hospice nurse to anyone who asks.

Gloria is a phenomenal nurse, along with being a kind, gentle-hearted, humbled individual. I thank you for sending Gloria our way, and I am so blessed and so appreciative of Valley that she was a part of my father's treatment and family.
