Grace is a godsend. Her demeanor never changed.
I am a somewhat difficult person to deal with when I’m not feeling well. When I first came in, Grace kindly explained to me what was transpiring and that she was going to take blood and start an IV. I abruptly stopped her asked, “Why do you need to start an IV?”

She paused, smiled, and kindly explained slowly and softly why she would start the IV. Stating, “Sometimes we put medication in it and if you pass out, we can give you fluids etc.” I snarled at her and told her I didn’t want an IV unless it was absolutely necessary. She was so kind and soft spoken. She said, “I can get a phlebotomist for you, if you’d like.” I barked at her and explained that I was a hard stick and that I have small, tiny veins that roll. Again, she smiled and said, “Okay, I’ll let the doctor know that you don’t want an IV.” I thanked her and she asked me was there anything she could do to make me feel comfortable. Really? As nasty as I was to her, why should she care if I were comfortable? But she did! That’s why she’s an amazing nurse! She is a godsend. Her demeanor never changed. Grace loves her job and overlooked my ignorance.

When I went to see my primary doctor after my hospital stay here, she was thoroughly impressed! After she read the notes in the My CHART, she asked, “Where is this hospital? They are thorough.” I don’t like coming to the hospital; I’m so glad I came in because I’m convinced that I will be taken care of. Grace is truly an “Amazing Grace” and blessing from God because I left with a smile and warmed heart. It has been softened by her and I will always keep her in my mind the next time I feel the hairs raise on my back.
