I found out much later that he and she had shared each other's email addresses and that they were trading emails after he was released. He was telling her how things were going and she was giving him bible verses to help him spiritually.
My husband spent one night in January of this year in ICU after an angiogram procedure that didn't go as well as hoped. Grace Park was one of his nurses on duty during that night. When I went in for a brief visit, my husband introduced me to Grace and said he was so calm under her care and felt she truly cared for his personal well-being. I spoke with my husband on the phone later that night and he told me "don't worry Grace is with me". I found out much later that he and she had shared each other's email addresses and that they were trading emails after he was released. He was telling her how things were going and she was giving him bible verses to help him spiritually.
After another few months, my husband had to return to ER and ended up in ICU again. On the day he passed away, Grace was once again one of his nurses. Even though my husband was not conscious during that time, just knowing Grace was there was a huge comfort to me. I noticed his wedding ring wasn't on his finger and she said, "oh I have that right here for safekeeping". Her compassion was evident and she did all she could to make that final visit as bearable as possible.
Once my family and I all left the hospital after saying our goodbyes, Grace called me on my cell phone and told me how it was an honor to take care of my husband, and how he had touched her with his love for me and our sons and their families. It was only then that I found out she and my husband had been emailing each other. My sons were with me in the car when she called and I tried to explain through my tears why she was calling. I was so overwhelmed that a nurse would go as far as calling the family to extend their heartfelt sadness at our loved one's passing.
We will forever remember nurse Grace and her connection to our beloved husband and father. May God continue to bless Grace and guide her to be a comfort to not only her patients but their families as well.
