Grace Stover was assigned to my daughter after we were admitted due to seizures. My daughter was only 4 weeks old and struggled with seizures since birth. No one was prepared for how serious my daughter's condition was and at the time had no clue she would be in the hospital for about a month followed by an intense brain surgery.
No matter the clusters of seizures we were trying to control or the young age of my daughter, Grace was not only quick to respond repeatedly to her but always approached with a positive attitude. I know she had other patients she was taking care of, but she made me feel like my daughter was the center of her world. As a parent, there is no better feeling than knowing your nurse is on top of your child's needs.
Grace was put with us for multiple days; that must have been exhausting for her. They finally decided that my daughter needed to go to the neonatal intensive care unit. Grace walked me and my daughter down there. She was very calming for me during the most stressful situation I've ever experienced. Before leaving the NICU, Grace gave me a hug and told me that my daughter was lucky to have such a strong mama. She didn't lie and tell me everything was going to be OK. She gave me the encouragement I needed and made me realize that now was a time to be "strong mom" for my daughter.
We continue to have appointments and overnight stays at this hospital and Grace always makes a point to see my daughter and give me a hug. Thanks to my one in a million daughter, we've seen many hospitals, doctors, and nurses. Grace touched my family's heart and I'm sure she'll continue to help many families through their ups and downs.
