My granddaughter has been in the hospital for about 10 days. On a particular night, Nurse Grace came on shift, and after taking her vitals, she said to me that she recommended that she be transferred to the ICU. She told me that they would take better care of her.
Her oxygen status and heart rate had been in an alarming state most of the day and into the night. In the ICU, she was congested and breathing hard. They went right to work with deep suctioning and spent 5 days in the ICU before returning to the floor.
Because Nurse Grace decided to promote better care and a skill set that could not be provided on the floor, my granddaughter did well. I think that Grace showed caring, competency, advocacy, and accountability.
