“Grace Santos has an infectious smile and gives exceptional care,” writes her patient who nominated her for the DAISY award … but ironically it wasn’t about her care, but that of her roommate who suffered from dementia. When the frantic yelling of “nurse … nurse” began occurring every half hour, she dealt with this “grace”fully, eventually deciding to stay by the patient’s side throughout the night.
“Grace even apologized for me not getting a good night’s sleep,” her nominator says, “but truthfully I was worried about her! At one point, I sat up to check on her, and bless her heart, she looked exhausted, but still had not left the patient alone. Grace demonstrated such an act of kindness and love for her patient.”
Her nominator continued, “It’s like the flower petal game, you know – ‘she loves me, she loves me not’ – if you’re a patient lucky enough to have Grace as your nurse, your petal will surely end with “she loves me.”
