I was admitted after a double hernia repair and bowel obstruction. My surgery was emergent, and I wasn't admitted to my room until 11:00 pm. Greg was my night nurse and I was happy to see him as I work with him and know he is a good nurse. Well, I was not prepared for the pain I experienced which turned me into the "nightmare patient". I felt like Greg never left my side. He was so caring and compassionate despite my ridiculous requests. I was in bed and then wanted to be out of bed. I needed more pillows. I was hot then cold. I wanted ice chips and Jolly Ranchers as well as multiple trips to the bathroom.
All the while I kept telling Greg I was sorry but, I still felt so much pain. He contacted the doctor several times per my request and never seemed aggravated of frustrated. He was just there rubbing my back and helping me with whatever I wanted on the spot. He gave me extraordinary care when many people probably would have gotten annoyed and sent another staff member to deal with me! He never hesitated to be there and provide emotional support and the utmost respect for me as a patient and a co-worker. I don't feel like I could have made it through that night without his support and caring gestures. I found out later he also had two other time-consuming patients that evening. I would have sworn I was his only patient as quickly as he answered my call light and responded to all my demands. Greg is truly an angel and I believe he is one of the most extraordinary nurses I've ever known. Thank you, Greg.
