Through his service, dedication, and leadership, Greg - a Navy Veteran - exemplifies the ICARE values of integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence. During a period of personnel turnover, Greg stepped up to serve as the acting unit nurse manager. He employed an uplifting style of communication that earned the respect of all around him. Greg successfully carried out all EMPU operations with no adverse patient events. He was forthright in reporting any EMPU downtimes and generously shared his time and talents, and those of his co-workers, to meet patient care needs across the facility. Greg broke down care silos and built teamwork and respect.
Greg displayed his commitment to veterans by playing a key role in establishing a new partnership between the JACC EMPU and Naval Hospital Pensacola (NHP). This partnership allows veterans to receive endoscopy care at NHP. Greg facilitated a leadership walk-through, arranged clinician meetings, and investigated computer requirements to ensure the confidential sharing of vital patient information. His ownership and project follow-up ensured the success of this collaboration. As of today, numerous Veterans Affairs (VA) patients have successfully received endoscopy procedures at NHP.
Greg is also a true veteran advocate and believes that all patients are his patients. His tireless efforts have earned not only veterans' respect, but also the respect of his colleagues. Greg has served as the preceptor for the incoming nurse manager, and he continues to mentor co-workers in clinical decisions and patient care concerns. Greg demonstrates pride in his work and demands the same of others. These are just a few of the many examples of Greg's service and dedication, and they highlight why he is so deserving of the DAISY Award.
