Gretchen Barry, RN

The patient came in for the LHC procedure, and a round-trip intervention to UMMC was recommended. The cardiologist advised the patient to be admitted to the hospital because of his unstable angina. Initially, the patient refused to stay because he was worried his delivered package would be stolen. Gretchen, who was his RN, offered to pick up his package after work and would bring it to him the next day to his hospital room. The patient was at ease and agreed to stay. Gretchen would probably think it was not a big deal to help this patient out. However, she didn't realize her kindness and caring would save his life. She went the extra mile to make sure the patient was worry-free and focused on his health.
