Gretchen truly cares. In cardiopulmonary rehab we have patients that come in 36 sessions for outpatient exercise after some type of heart event. Gretchen was scheduled to orient a gentleman to start cardiac rehab. During the beginning of his orientation, Gretchen found out that this particular gentleman was homeless. Immediately Gretchen contacted social work and had social work get involved with his situation. Because of this immediate intervention, they were able to get in contact with the Akron Metro Housing Authority. We didn't see this patient for a period of time, tried to get in contact with him, and recently he was re-admitted to the hospital due to chest pain, was discharged, and was able to return to us. When he came back on Monday he was happy to say that he finally has a place to call his own. I am truly honored to work with Gretchen, because of her urgency this gentleman that had been working at least 2 years with the housing authority to find a home, finally has a home. It is true, that some basic needs we take for granted are items that others don't have. Something that we all go home to after work, this gentleman only had his car and wouldn't know where he would be staying.
Gretchen truly takes the motto of "Be nice, work hard and accommodate" to heart, and for that she truly deserves the DAISY Award.
