July 2026 Honoree
Gretchen Sell, RN
| Gretchen is an outstanding human. Her accolades go well beyond her skills as a nurse. She does her job well and took amazing care of our twin girls. She is so knowledgeable about what she does. However, she also took amazing care of us as a family. She went above and beyond so many times to ensure we were well-informed, comfortable, and taken care of while we spent time here. We had tough days, and she made sure we understood all the medical terminology, the care we could do with our babies, and what the next steps were in their care. From explaining tough medical things to us, to walking us through how to do cares with our babies, to getting us water, to putting sheets on to make our very sick daughter feel special. She did way more than the job called for. We unfortunately lost one of our twins while she was here, but Gretchen never stopped caring for her with the utmost love and compassion. She continued to give her the dignity and respect of any other baby, despite her lack of responsiveness. There were so many times Gretchen cheered us on, lent a listening ear, held space for us while we cried, and taught us how to care for our preemie babies, even when she wasn’t assigned to one of our daughters that day. She is one in a million, and this department is so lucky to have her. We are even luckier to have met her and had her care for our girls. |
Thank you, Gretchen, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
