My husband was diagnosed with infective endocarditis, and the prognosis was not good. He was extubated and transferred from the ICU to Comfort Care. The kindness and compassion with which Gretchen treated my husband and myself was extraordinary. Even though my husband was unconscious and unresponsive, Gretchen retained his dignity and talked to him as though he was completely aware of everything she was doing. I was in shock at the speed with which events had transpired and how quickly my husband had gone downhill, and Gretchen could not have been kinder or more supportive. She is an extraordinary nurse and a tremendous asset to Beebe. She treated us not only with the greatest professionalism but also with deep humanity. I am immensely grateful for her assistance in navigating what was a very challenging experience.
