During a black out situation in the ED; while awaiting the arrival of the nursing supervisor and manager, Guirlene moved patients to SDS, initiated calls to AOD so as to start the 1st ever EOGH ambulance bypass in over 7 years. The safety of all patients in the ED was her first priority. She assembled and coordinated various staff to man various stations, including the now darkened ED nurses station, fast track and Triage areas. Guirlene was instrumental in controlling chaos that would be with the uncertainty faced by the blackout. She acted as a true leader easily directing traffic in both the ED and SDS. Though the success of the patient's safety was a multidisciplinary effort between ED staff, Registration and security, Guirlene's presence on this day clearly showed what a shining star she is.
