...Her patient commended Gwen for helping her feel safer and calmer in a situation where she was afraid and stressed. Gwen took extra time explaining the paperwork and answering all of her questions. Gwen obtained a heated blanket to soothe the patient when she was shivering. She then obtained another blanket for the patient's legs. The patient stated that "she did so much and I never once asked her to do any of these things, it was amazing". She appreciated Gwen holding her hand and talking to her about one of her favorite topics - turtles, to help calm her. Gwen helped her to remember to breathe and found a picture of a turtle for her to focus on. The patient further stated "she was awesome and went above and beyond her job description and I thank her for all she does".

Gwen is described by her peers as being very kind and attentive to the psychological needs of all of her patient. She is compassionate and helps the patients relax for their procedure. Gwen is always on time and is a cooperative team player with all of her co-workers. Gwen's peers state that she brings a positive attitude to the work environment and is a pleasure to work with. The physicians always compliment her and often request her to be on their cases because of the high quality patient care she gives and compliments she receives from her patients.

Because of Gwen's compassionate and caring efforts, her patients experience a level of care that exemplifies the impact nurses have in creating an environment where patients and families feel at home.
