I had struggled for 12 weeks with a surgical infection that left me with several chronic, open wounds. I had been seeing a wound care specialist out of another local hospital for 4 weeks and had very little progress in healing. At this time, my lab cultures also showed I had become resistant to oral antibiotics. As my luck would have it, I was sent to Sequoia Hospital. I was greeted by a kind intake nurse, a thorough ER staff, and the most caring hospitalist and nursing staff. It was quickly determined I would need to be placed on IV antibiotics to fight the infection. Step one was to start the healing on the inside, step two was meeting with Gwen, the wound care nurse. 
From the moment I met Gwen I felt such warmth, compassion and comfort. She truly radiates kindness and empathy. Gwen determined a course of action and made decisive measures to treat my wounds. She personally reached out to my surgeon recommending an immediate procedure that would help the healing process. My surgeon agreed with her findings and they teamed up to make it happen! Gwen accomplished more in 2 hours under her care than I had gotten elsewhere in 14 weeks! In those 2 hours under her care she made me laugh, made me cry tears of emotion from her empathy and set me on the path to healing. I will forever be grateful for her compassion, her warm heart, and her support during one of the most difficult times of my life.
